Listen to her interview with Terri Stacy here:
By the time Renee was twenty-seven years old, she had visited 25 countries, lived in a castle, and sailed halfway around the world on a mercy ship–a ship which brought aid to disaster victims and medical care to impoverished people. On the ship, Renee taught the crew’s children and began writing original poems about godly character traits for her classes, which she set to music. Her poems also delighted her friends who encouraged her to apply her unique skills to stories that would inspire children–young and old–in their walk with God. While praying with her principal on the ship one day, her dream for a children’s series was born.
To help hone her writing skills, Renee first attended an Author’s Training School and wrote several books for adults. But Renee never forgot her original dream for a children’s series. She wrote her first children’s book on the life of Amy Carmichael, and sent it off to a publisher with only a hope and a prayer that they would share her vision of challenging and encouraging children through the lives of real life Christian heroes. Youth With A Mission (YWAM) took up the vision and the “Heroes for Young Readers” series was born. Ten years later Renee has completed 28 books, which have been translated into three languages and have sold hundreds of thousands of copies throughout the world. A natural teacher and story teller, Renee has traveled the globe speaking and teaching. She especially enjoys leading children in creative exercises that expand their vision for their own lives–a world of opportunity, adventure and joy as children discover and fulfill the call of God upon their lives.
